Honestly, I was beginning to think this day would never come, but here it is folks.
Right now I’m busy getting ready to produce my play–
AND BELLA SANG WITH US–in the up and coming Vancouver Fringe Festival.
The inimitable Sarah Rodgers is directing a stellar cast and creative team. You can read about them here.
This production is ridiculously important to me. The script is the result of extensive rewrites of an earlier– and very different play– Kid Gloves. The new production will be part of the Dramatic works series at the Cultch.

Maggie, this is really embarrassing! I just now found your message. I’m so sorry. I got rather distracted as my Mom was ill for a long time and then passed away. I simply didn’t think to look for comments or posts. Of course I remember you. You taught all Math when you were at UHill though, didn’t you? How are you now? Still teaching? I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed And Bella Sang With Us. I thought the story and production were fabulous. I am so grateful for your hard and persistent work.
I am a born in Vancouver person and love the history that goes with our city. So I really wanted to see the play from that perspective but especially because it women and women’s issues were at the center.
I had just started reading a book called, Rise Sister Rise by Rebecca Campbell which begins with the idea that femininity and women’s intuition have been lost in many of us as we take our place in the work force. In this present day book, the author talks about how many women who want to rise up the ladder or to take on leadership must develop male characteristics – or be one of the boys. I was blown away when I found myself witnessing that exact topic and struggle between and with the two woman.
For me, I found so many layers of intrigue with the characters and situations in the play. It was good that I was with four other girl friends because we had lots to discuss afterwards.
I just wanted you to know how much your work was enjoyed and talked about and learned from.

Hello Pat, I can’t believe I just found your comment here today. Two years later! I’m so sorry, but very happy I found it. I went through a long period where my Mom was ill and then passed away and then I just got busy and forgot about the website. I didn’t even know there were any comments here. Thank you for your interest in the play and for taking the time to get in touch with me. It means a great deal to me. That script had a very difficult journey – it went up too early the first time and flopped – and I was determined to do it again and get it right. Reading this makes me feel that I may have done that. Wishing you all the best. Sally

Hey Sally! I just spent a lovely few days in Vancouver and explored the Fringe 2018. And — to my delight and surprise — I stopped by “Spinning You Home.” What a beautiful script and story. You did an amazing job calling up these ghosts, and the production was so well done. Loved the acting (both of them!) and the live sound design.
Congrats all around! And then — I could not but explore your website. What a line up of really exciting projects. Great to see you SOOO alive and thriving, and doing theatre and things creative in Vancouver.

PS: You really might not remember me but this goes years and years and years back when I was studying at UBC for my MA. We did a show together (for my directing course) and then took it to the FRINGE — “Who was Hilary Maconachie?” (An absurdist farce with a huge British Flag in the back…….) ;o)

Cordula! I haven’t been on the site for ages as I’ve been so darn busy with life and work, too. Thanks for your lovely comments about Spinning You Home. Of course I remember you! ‘Who was Hilary Maconachie?’ was a blast. I loved working on it. We had so much fun. I ran into Mrs. Drudge about a year ago in a line up for the Vancouver Film Festival. The terrible thing is that right now I can’t remember her real name. Lovely woman. So good to hear from you. Where are you these days? Still involved in theatre or academia?
